The Missing Roll
Back in the day of 35mm film I drove up to the summit of Mt. Evans and took a couple of photographs of the resident mountain goats, among other things. When I took the film in to be process I couldn't find the roll with the goats. It wasn't until years later that the missing roll showed up one day by rolling out from under the front seat of the car (remember the Walley Wagon?). What you see is what happens to slide film when you don't process it right away after exposing it.
Turns out - I think the affect is kinda cool. I did do a little color adjusting on the two goat shots.

Swallowtail and Thistle
Spotted this butterfly while driving up to the cabin in Lime Canyon. Amazingly, it didn't fly away when I slammed on the breaks, jumped out and started taking pictures. What I didn't know was that there was a group of little girls playing on the other side of the bushes. One of them must have run inside and told her mommy that there is a man outside taking our picture. I didn't know the girls were there until this women came storming out of the cabin asking me if she "could help me". My first thought was: excellent, could you block the sun on the background (thought it might make for a more dramatic look to have the background a little darker), but I don't think that's what she had in mind. Happily, the butterfly didn't fly away and I pointed out what I was doing. She turns around and goes into the house and brings out a little girl with a butterfly net, who caught it and stuck it in a box...oh well, what are you going to do.Monday, February 8, 2010
